Sound Horse and Hound has been in business local to Maple Valley and Covington since 2014. We work with all animals, animal care practitioners and local businesses to assure the best care for our clients. Sound Horse and Hound is developed out of a dream. A dream to one day build a rehab center for all animals at an affordable rate. We will have all the animal care professionals under one roof. This will come true one day in the future but at this time we are small and developing partnerships throughout the community.
I guess the question then becomes what is rehab?
Rehab is taking an animal from an event and helping them recover. Many rehab centers are behavioral rehab that is not what we are currently offering but we do refer to business with credentials to work with that. We currently offer assistance in injury recovery, pain reduction and care. I work with the animal care team to develop the best plan for the animal. This can be recovering from a cruciate tear or horse back pain to arthritic changes in our older pet partners. The sky is the limit.
A good example is Lola, Lola is a client of mine and a beautiful Catahoula old lady. She has struggled with arthritic changes. In working with the owners, veterinarian and local pet store we have been able to reduce her pain and give her better quality of life. Her story, her better quality of life; that is why Sound Horse and Hound was born. Check back for videos coming soon.
Rio is another example. Many of you have seen or heard stories of Rio. Rio belonged to a gal that pulled him from the sunnyside kill pen as a young under 2 Andalusian stud colt. Rio was dropped off at this kill pen from a string of Mexican dancing horses. He had experienced abuse that made him extremely fearful of people, blind in one eye and physical pain you couldn't believe. With the help of the quarantine barn owner, massage and time we were able to bring him out of his extreme depression and work on his physical damage. His rehab took years but 4 years later he is now my personal horse that loves people completely sound and an amazing trail and arena horse. Rio's story is a heartbreaking one with a fairytale ending. Rio is the beginning of the Sound Horse and Hound Rio Rehab fund. In his name one day we plan to have a rehab fund for those that are unable to pay, like his owners that pulled him from the kill pen and keep a horse that they love.
